We proudly announce our class member who made the most progress with basic facts over Term 2! Congratulations Helena. You show great focus and effort with your learning.

We have been learning about fractions
Term 2 Weeks 1 - 3

We have been building lots of knowledge about fractions:
  • Reading and writing fractions 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 & 3/4
  • Finding 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 & 3/4 of a shape or set
  • Explaining the meaning of the denominator and numerator
Some of us created our own stories using fractions.

Flynn's story:
Flynn had 30 sheep. He has divided them into thirds. He has 10 sheep in each third.
10 + 10 + 10 = 30
3 lots of 10 = 30
3 x 10 = 30

Nevaeh's story:
Nevaeh has 24 sheep. Her paddock is divided into quarters. She has 6 sheep in each quarter.
1/4 of 24 is 6
6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 24
4 lots of 6 is 24
4 x 6 =24

Max's story:
Max has 22 sheep. The paddock is divided into 1/2. How many sheep are in each half?
1/2 of 22 is 11
Proof:
1/2 of 20 is 10. 1/2 of 2 is 1 so 10 + 1 = 11
11 + 11 = 22
2 lots of 11 is 22
2 x 11 = 22

Joshua E's story:
Joshua has 16 sheep. His paddock is divided into quarters. How many sheep will be in each quarter? 1/4 of 16 = 4
Proof:
4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16
4 lots of 4 = 16
4 x 4 = 16
