Visible Learning in Karearea 3
Cromwell Primary School promotes the thinking and behaviours which develop visible learners. We want teachers to see learning through the eyes of their students and students to see themselves as their own teachers.
For students to see themselves as their own teachers they need to know where they are with their learning (what they are presently able to do) what their next learning goals are and the strategies they need to implement in order to attain those goals. The students also need to recognise and apply the importance of  effort and mindset to achieve their goals. We talk a lot in Room 6 about being 'our own teachers' and taking responsibility for our learning. We talk about having a growth mindset and seeing challenge as a positive part of learning. We see getting 'in the pit' with our learning as part of the learning process and should be celebrated as a good thing - I'm working on something that isn't easy, so I'll actually learn something!
We have weekly quotes in our room. Some you may hear your child talk about at home. These are a couple which follow the thinking we believe will support your child in being the 'best 'visible learner' they can be. If they make us reflect on our own lives too, that's a good thing. We're all on the learning journey together!

As part of celebrating visible learning in Karearea 3 we have a class visible learning trophy. This trophy is awarded to a student within our class who stands out during the week as a true visible learner - someone who really shows they can be their own teacher. They display the independence and levels of responsibility towards their learning that allows shift to happen with their learning. They can identify evidence of the shift and demonstrate consistency with the attitudes and behaviours they display.
Congratulations to the following recognised visible learners in Karearea 3 during Term 1.

Congratulations to the following recognised visible learners in Room 6 during Term 1.

Cromwell Primary School Fair
Every second year Cromwell Primary School has a school fair. As part of the fair each class creates a canvas to auction and raise money. Our canvas this year was inspired by art work created by Raewyn Harris, a New Zealand artist. We had previously used her paintings as inspiration for our own paintings in Term 3. We created our own secondary colours and tints and wanted to consider contrast and shape. We all contributed to painting our canvas and felt really proud of what we achieved.
Our own 'Raewyn Harris' inspired creation painted by the kids of Room 6!

Top Progress Maker with Spelling Term 3
Congratulations Oscar Horne

Monster cards
Monster are special in Room 6. They  are given out sparingly and acknowledge extra special effort and achievements in Room 6.
Today these students showed they were deserving of being acknowledged for outstanding behaviour and learning.

Congratulations to all our monster card recipients.
Week 7
Nevaeh, Elliet, Sam F, Joshua, Oscar and Max for great visible learning behaviours - being their own teachers - knowing what their goals are and actually working hard to achieve them. Well done - your efforts make sure a big difference to what you achieve.
 Congratulations Jessica

Congratulations Billy and Nevaeh.

We had another monster card in week 7. Congratulations Elliet - well deserved!

Term 2 Monster card recipients

Congratulations Alleighya on receiving your monster card in Week 7. It was a very popular and well deserved acknowledgment of effort.

Mindsets

Room 6 students have been doing a huge amount of work learning and exploring the impact our mindset has on our ability to learn and achieve our potential.
Mindsets is a simple idea discovered by world-renowned Standford University psychologist Carol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success. Mindset information from Carol Dweck's website

There are some great readings and information for us all as parents regarding feedback and how to support a growth mindset in our own thinking and the behaviour and thinking of our children.

The children loved this song we have been singing in class, reinforcing the power of 'yet' The message is with practice and effort you will be able to do things you just can't do yet!

2014 EOTC Week

Week 7 is our EOTC week We participated in some great challenges during the week. EOTC week is a week to practice our 'Learner Powers'. Our 'Learner Powers' are the power we have to make a difference in our lives. EOTC gave us an opportunity to focus on being a:

Self Manager - being resilience, responsible and persistent
Collaborator - contributing, caring and working together
Communicator - being confident, responsive and respectful

Our theme was to also explore our back yard and enjoy challenges on our doorstep. Here's hoping many children will encourage their parents to take them there again.
A huge thank you to all the parents who assisted with transportation and assistance during the week. We simply could not have had the week we had without you. Thanks!

Check out what we were up to for the week.

Monday - The Big Bike Practise
Today was the first day of our EOTC week. Mr Milford took us through our paces and checked out how competent we were on our bikes.

Tuesday - Our Big Bike About
We had the most amazing day. We biked to the Alpha Street Reserve. Mr Milford (The Police Education Officer) biked with us and helped make sure we got across the road safely. For many children it was the first time they had biked on the main road. Our Self Managing Skills earned an A+!  We all proved ourselves to be responsible, persistent and resilient

Wednesday - Our Big Walk About!
Room 6 and 4 walked from the Bannockburn Bridge back to school. It was a fun and challenging walk. Many children had not been on that part of the lake track before.
Enjoy the photos from the trip.

Thursday - Fun with Equipment at School

Friday - Technology Challenge Afternoon
Room 7,6 and 4 combined for a Technology Challenge. Each class teacher organised a challenge and the children from all 3 classes got to choose the challenge they wanted to be part of.

Thank you so much to all the parents who assisted throughout the week. We simply could not have done all the things we did without your generous help. Thanks so much from all of us in Room 6!

Assembly Term 3
We ran assembly on Friday. Kees, Sam, Flynn and Oscar did a hip hop dance they created themselves.

We shared our learning about the earth. A group of us made a paper mache outer layer for our earth. The outer layer was to show the crust is made up of tectonic plates. The tectonic plates are like a giant jog saw around the earth that moves slowly all the time.

A group of us made a movie about what to do in an earthquake. Thanks Zac from R1 for helping us get planned and sorted for the filming. You were great!
